We all have idols. People we look up to, aspire to be like, or simply just admire for their immeasurable talent. Each of us secretly hopes that someday we will get to shake hands with our idols. And if we are really lucky, maybe share a beer at an old dive bar with them. For Alyssa, lead designer at Slanted Creative, one of her all-time idols is singer-songwriter, Brandi Carlile. After seeing Brandi perform at a small music venue in Boulder, Colorado circa 2009 Alyssa was a fan!

Now every designer has that “thing” that introduced them to the idea of designing for a living. For some, it was the animations in a movie or the detailed illustrations on a book cover; Alyssa’s ahh-haa moment came from the merchandise table at her favorite musician’s concerts. When she realized that people got PAID like made actual real dollars from designing the merchandise, Alyssa was ready to turn that into her pipe dream.

Alyssa took her love for Brandi Carlile’s music and paired it with her excitement for designing band merchandise and designed a line-up of promotional products for Brandi Carlile’s summer tour. Using graphic design skills in Photoshop, Illustrator, and Lightroom Alyssa created pieces that speak to Brandi’s audience as well as capture the energy of her live performances. When a graphic designer really loves what they are designing, the work reflects that!
